The CEMAC region?

CEMAC comprises 6 states: Chad, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, with 50M inhabitants, spread over a surface of 3M km².

Established to promote economic integration among them, these 6 countries share a common currency, the CFA franc.

Its objectives: to promote trade, institute a true common market, and greater solidarity among peoples and towards under-privileged countries and regions.

CEMAC countries share a common financial, regulatory, and legal structure, and maintain a common external tariff on imports from non-CEMAC countries.

Context:

Today, the need in protein (meat + fish) in the CEMAC region is estimated at 1.9M tones while the production only reaches 0,8M tones. The deficit is 1,1M tones. To provide sufficient protein the production market must grow.

Projections indicate that if the situation of the livestock sector (low levels in public and private investment and low growth) remains in its current state, growing demand will not be accompanied by an increased production, which will lead to a significant deficit in supply of high quality animal protein and will therefore have negative impacts on the food and nutritional security of millions of households in Africa.

3 Field Programs

To increase the abundance of foodstuffs and combat existing deficits, it is necessary not only to professionalize the market, to strengthen trade between member countries, but also to diversify the existing food basket. CEMAC has several executing agencies to take action in the field. The CEBEVIRHA (Economic Commission for Livestock, Meat and Fish Resources) is one of them. The latter's mission is to contribute to sustainable development, the harmonization of the livestock sectors, animal industries, fisheries and aquaculture.

The CEBEVIRHA has structured a strategic plan for HORIZON 2025 around 3 programs (spread over 11 projects):

1 - Improve treatment and animal health

1 - Improve treatment and animal health

2 - Improve the socio-economic conditions of the parties involved in the targeted sectors (fishing, breeding, etc.)

2 - Improve the socio-economic conditions of the parties involved in the targeted sectors (fishing, breeding, etc.)
